You get about 300 business cards from the shows, people that not only like your product, they think it is clever, and they "click" with you, and when you get back to your office, you call them up and set up deals for about $100,000 and you discover that is like $100, just a number. Too bad your company is a dummy, and sells its products too high for the world market, then you make no money.
But, you begin to see, and do not realize yet what is before your sense emporium: all of the old wive's tales and little "sayings" that we hold dear to us, are absolutely incorrect, and that is a little book I am putting together. Here is a preview:
Although my company blew it from incorrect calculations by an individual who hid his learning disability by sounding like the next Senator from California, an oddity, don't you think, I learned that at trade shows big deals are made in small moments like days, so there definitively are "get rich quick schemes" known as spending $10,000 to do a trade show in your industry, and racking, yes, racking up orders and strong leads for projects that instantly make you rich. At least Cuban rich, and not $100 this time!
For how many years we the Cubans laughed at that joke, which we told ourselves, we lived just a little closer to objective reality in Cuba, and now I realize that it is true: we can do more with the $100 than most do with $500.
So, make your way to trade shows and many of them, and you are rich. Become vendor to the corporations takes two years, but then you get rich also: $1000-10,000 per day, get your groove on and go to every major city street in America (not so many! 32 Metros, each has 30 major streets with shops, 1000 busy streets; is that the name of my new show? not only in this parenthetical enclosure do I say to you who is your data, baby, but point out the fun of making the world a better place, it also makes you rich and you don't even notice: you already had wealth-on-demand and know that wealth is not the big deal. Then I study physics and look for ways to make finding, at least in a science fiction sort of way for my stories and fill my minds with lots of puff just from the fore-words and pre-faces, by the time I read the table of contents I am ready to explode! Sometimes, I pace in circles, but I didn't even know that! Why that means this, maybe that is possible: by what Tools of Mental Science may I exploit this cross sectional exposition of data?
By then of course I exhausted and go play sports, twice a week drums at night. I ride my bike furiously to Emeryville and jam and record for two hours, rough mix. When the new guitarist appears we are set to go again, the old one split for Florida.
